Goodnight Sweet Papa

Early this morning at 3:23am, my grandfather passed away. He was surrounded by his family until he took his last breath. Here is a link to what my Aunt wrote.

My Papa was at the hospice in patient unit where I work. I was able to stop by to see him before work, during my lunch break, and after work. I was able to sit and hold his hand for as long as I wanted to. I cherish those moments.

It's never easy saying goodbye. The older I get the more I know our days with those we love are a gift.

Your post (and your aunt's) made me think about this song by The Vespers. It's a very sweet song about their grandpa. Have a listen. I hope you find some comfort in it.

(It's called "Eyes Wide Open" in case the link doesn't work.)

So sorry for your loss but so glad you had a chance to be with him before his passing.

I am SO sorry about your losing your grandfather. You are so lucky you had him! I never knew my grandfathers, and have only vague memories of my two grandmothers...both gone by my 4th year. It has been a sad time. I lost my sister on March 9, and despite the fact that she's no longer in pain and suffering so, it's still horrible for all of us left behind. My thoughts go out to you and your family. May those we've lost live on, happily, in our memories. XXX

I love your aunt's post. I really do believe that God and angels send us special signs that maybe only make sense to us. I am grateful you could hold your grandfather's hand as much as you did. God bless you, I hope you are all doing well
